Issues and Accomplishments
When I ran for office in 2020, I wanted to solve problems facing our City. Since then, we have made progress as a Council. I want to keep working hard for Modesto for 4 more years. Here are some examples of what we have been able to accomplish together -
Public Safety

Led the way by Modesto Police Department becoming the first Autism-certified Police Department in California

Received over $6 million in state funding to fight organized retail theft

Championed the Forward Together Initiative to restore trust between law enforcement and our community, leading to the creation of our Civilian Police Review Board

Expanded Fire Department Services

Added new fire department position allocations in the Budget

Onboarded 23 new fire department employees

Launched the Medic 1 Program, a new program that dispatches fire captain paramedics to medical emergencies

Supplied all of our first-out response apparatuses with Advanced Life Support equipment

Increased the City’s forestry crew to prune more trees and reduce storm damage

Economic Development & Good Governance

Closed the City’s budget deficit

Hired a City Auditor

Restored civility to the Modesto City Council, creating a collaborative council that works together to accomplish our goals

Began the process to update the City’s General Plan, which will serve as a blueprint for the city’s development for decades to come

Launched the process to create an Economic Development Strategic Plan for our city

Rezoned Sisk to allow for redevelopment of empty big box stores into housing and mixed use
Housing & Homelessness

Added over 300 new affordable housing units that are now approved or in construction, with more affordable housing units pending approvalSome examples are:

Archway Common II - 74 unites for individuals and families earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income

112 James Street Apartments - 7 new units of permanent supportive housing for Stanislaus County Behavioral Health clients at risk or experiencing homelessness

1208 9th Street - 14 units of permanent supportive housing for youth experiencing homelessness

Funded Bridge Housing (housing that is a "bridge" between emergency shelter facilities and permanent housing options) and began soliciting community partners
-
Conducted 400 park clean-ups and removed over 600,000 pounds of trash while offering individuals services and shelter through our Homeless Engagement and Response Unit (HEART) in 2023 alone

Responded to nearly 5,000 calls for service in 2023 and successfully helped 1,214 people get shelter and other services through our Community Health and Assistance Team (CHAT)
