Council Member Escutia-Braaton Announces Reelection Campaign

Modesto, CA – Today Modesto City Council Member Rosa Escutia-Braaton, District 1, announced her campaign for a second term.

“When I was first elected in 2020, our city faced significant challenges, including changing the dysfunction of a previous council that hindered our city’s progress,” said Escutia-Braaton.

“I know that our community thrives when we work together and that is why I am running for reelection,” she added. “ I want to continue fostering unity and collaboration among our Council and our residents.”

“One of our major challenges was public safety,” she continued. “We needed to close our budget deficit and rebuild trust between the community and law enforcement, which is why I supported Measure H and the creation of our public safety initiative, Forward Together.”

“Rosa puts in the work and has been one of the key proponents of many of our City’s successful initiatives, including Forward Together,” said Mayor Sue Zwahlen. “I am proud to endorse Rosa because she continues to be a tireless advocate for all residents of Modesto.”

Prior to her election to the Modesto City Council in 2020, Escutia-Braaton served on the Modesto Planning Commission and worked in the public and private sectors for over 25 years.

“Our city has many great opportunities on the horizon,” said Escutia-Braaton. “We are updating the City’s General Plan, which will serve as a blueprint for our city for decades to come, and we are creating a new Economic Development Strategic Plan, which will help us attract new business development and jobs.”

Improving public safety will also remain a top priority for Council Member Escutia-Braaton. She is honored to have the endorsement of the local police officers and firefighters associations for her reelection campaign.

“While on the council, Rosa has worked on addressing quality of life issues and making our neighborhoods safer,” said Robert Gumm, Chair of the Modesto Police Officers Association Political Action Committee. “She is a strong advocate for financial responsibility, economic growth and improving public safety.”
